My entry for Susanna Hill's "The In Just Spring Contest!!!"
It could use work, but I wanted to enter, so here it is. :)
(UPDATE: I changed it to just a snippet! Maybe you'll get to read the whole thing in book format someday! *Fingers crossed*)
Squirrels zip and zoom, stop to scold
Stella.
“Enjoy the day,” the breeze
whispers and caresses.
“Time to fly your kite!” dad says.
Stella knew Spring was really here!

Oh, this is wonderful, Meg! I love the bird song - "Tweet tweedle, wick wicka wick" - and the rain washing the landscape echoed my Mama washing Stella, and the "crafty birds" and the "sea of emerald" and the nests going from "pebble smooth eggs" to "saying peep peep"! And how perfect that Stella identifies spring when the kite comes out. Thanks for a terrific entry! :)
Meg - really lovely. The longer I read the longer I wanted to keep reading and soak in the visuals you presented. Smile on my face!
Oh how I love Stella's Spring. You write beautifully! I loved the way your story progressed from just a peek of spring to the full blossoming of spring. Just delightful!
wonderful story! love this part :Heavenly scents, honeysuckle and linden tree :)
Adorable!
My favorite part was about birds searching for nesting materials! When I cut my family's hair, I always toss the hair outside so the birds can use it...and they do! :)
Oh thank you ladies!! You are all so very very kind. :) My heart is full to bursting!!!!!!
Love all the sounds - you've made spring come to life!
This is darling! The way the story is written really seems to reflect the thought patterns of a young child. Well done!
Puddles, stomp splash! "Whee!"
Now that's what Spring means to me! Loved it Meg! :0)
I like the bird song a lot also. And your drawings on the other parts of your blog are fabulous!
Sweet!
"Tweet tweedle, wick wicka wick" is just wonderful.Very cute story and I love your writing style.
Love the bird song. Stella's my kind of girl. She can find something fun everyday.
Images sparkle here like a shower of rain in sunlight.
Dive bombing bugs!! Oh we all know that lol
Meg, it's wonderful. I love it, esp the wick wicka wick too :)
Hi Meg...nice to connect via Susanna's wonderful spring contest.:)
I love your story...the images are perfect...I can just see the little girl splashing in the puddles. And I love the breeze that whispers and caresses.
"Pebble smooth eggs." Love it!
