Florida
Thursday, March 10, 2011
I told Peep the morning we were leaving that we needed to eat breakfast because we were leaving to go to Florida. She went to the front door, reached for the handle and said, "Me me ah Florida."
Her speech and vocab have improved so much in the past week, it's incredible. She's got a big thing with, "Oh no!" lately. As in, "Oh no, my bucket (baby, blankie, penny, juice, milk, etc.)!"
An allehhh-yator (Peep's pronunciation) we spotted behind our cottage.
We laid her down in our inn room for a nap (in a pack n play, bless you Anchor Inn & Cottages!!) and we laid down to take a nap too. Peep says, "Hi, Momma. Hi, Momma. Hi, Momma." I didn't respond. Then she says, "Momma sleep. Night night Momma, night night!" I hear her lay down. Approx. 30 seconds later she stands up and repeats the process. She did that, oh, 3 or 4 times. I'm just laying there trying not to laugh out loud.
She ADORED the beach. She'd have spent all day there, no problem. I don't even think she would have stopped for lunch. She waded into the surf, scooped sand with her shovel and bucket, watched people, picked up shells, followed seagulls and other birds around (that was too cute).

I wanted to post pics of the gilt mirror I altered last week, but I forgot to load the pics. So today I'll show you a day lily picture from the summer. Nice pic if I don't say so myself...

Actually it's just a lost crawfish. We had a huge rain one evening and the next day this guy was meandering down our front walk. I came up behind him with my camera to take a pic and he flopped awkwardly around and gave me his meanest look, pincers extened, to intimidate me. Would have been more intimidating if he was bigger than 3 inches long, maybe 2 wide...

This is the look he gives you when you take his ball away to try to get a picture of him without it. What do you think he's thinking?? Comment with a caption and I'll send the author of my favorite caption an 8 x 10 of The Pooch!

Here's a pic of the tame pigeon who's been hanging around our house. He'll let me get within a foot or so of him. We think maybe he flew into our kitchen window cuz there is a white and gray feather stuck to it.
I'm thinking he was someone's pet and got a way because of how close he'll let me get to him and his apparent lack of outdoor savvy. I'm afraid he'll get eaten by the wild cats or a bigger bird. Anyway missing a pigeon?

Here's another pic of the toad living in my little pot. He gets stands up and stares me down if I take to many pics of him, water my pant, or move the pot. I don't know why he's so grumpy. Or why he is living in this little pot.
I hope he's not planning on living here for the winter because I'm guessing that would be a rather chilly spot. Unless Jo takes them to Texas before winter... Want a grumpy toad too??

This wee guy joined me for breakfast the other day. Are you sick of frog and toad shots? Tough! Just kidding, but seriously I see a lot of frogs and toads out here in the boonies...

I went to water my trees the other day and I had a wee visitor!! He blends quite nicely don'tcha think?? I'm so bummed, my pics of him are all blurry. :(
These tree starts are for Hubs's sister. We have lots of baby maple trees. Everywhere. Even in our rain gutters. Probably in Pooch's tummy too, knowing that he eats weird things for a dog.

That's the sound Hubs made when this guy jumped on his arm as he walked out the door the other day. Never heard that before, typically he's QUITE unflappable. You can't scare him, tickle him, nothin'.... Hee hee... :D
This guy was large, probably 6 or so inches from head to tail.... Of course I'd have squawked if he'd jumped on me, but that's just a given, nothing noteworthy. Magpie squawked, screamed, jumped? Of course she did, YAWN.

These are my MIL's duck babies. Aren't they precious?? :)
My friend Kelly and I made sugar scrubs last night. She is uber handy at all this cool stuff!! We did a few different blends and made different scents. Mine are Ylang Ylang Vanilla, Lemon Sage and Lavendar Spearmint. Yum...

Earlier this summer C found one of these beauties hiding in our yard. Upon hunting we found three little brown paper bags full of them. Our friend Kirk came over and sauteed some in butter for us. They had a delicious, earthy flavor.

Here is the bird feeder stand that C helped me make. My Mom has something like this in her garden. The branch she and my Pops used has more character, but you gotta work with whatcha got. I'm going to put a bird house or perhaps another bird feeder on the lower branch. I left a nubbin' of a branch to hang a suet feeder. I need to get some bird seed for it!

Queen Anne's Lace in the backyard...
This Brad Paisley Song, Me Neither, cracks C and I up. I don't know if any of you out there likes country or not, but regardless it's a funny song. :)

This chubby little guy lives in a drain tube in our backyard. He was feeling a little camera shy, bad wart day. :)
This reminds me of a song I learned in elementary school and sang until my older brother's ears bled, remember J? Froggie Went a Courtin'. Okay, one's a toad and the other's a frog, but you can see how I got there, right?
